A 66-YEAR-OLD Bulilima woman has been granted a protection order against her 19-year-old grandson whom she claimed has been terrorising her by insulting her and destroying her property.
Dezznah Dube, who is a widow, said Iwanani Dube was acting under the influence of relatives who wanted to displace her from her homestead in Dombodema area.
The elderly woman said Iwanani had on several occasions barged into her homestead and threatened to kill her and her children if she did not relocate.
“I am living in fear Your Worship because of the manner in which this boy and his family are treating me. Iwanani is acting under the influence of his family. Ever since my husband died they have taken advantage of the fact that I am a widow to force me to abandon my homestead.
“Recently this young man came to my home and told me that he would kill me because the family did not accept my presence. He also told me that the family elders had tried to displace me but had failed and he vowed to carry out their plan,” said Dube.
She said recently Iwanani deliberately drove his family’s cattle into her fields in a bid to spite her.
Dube said upon confronting him her grandson told her that the fields that had been ruined by the animals did not belong to her.
She said since Iwanani’s father, who was her nephew, passed away her grandson had stopped showing any respect towards her as an elderly woman.
She said she had tried to engage family elders on the matter but without luck.
Dube said Iwanani was constantly insulting her and her children.
She said some relatives were spreading rumours that she was being rejected by the family as she was a witch. She said Iwanani had uttered those words to her on several occasions.
“My worry is that Iwanani will on some day execute all these threats that he has been making of killing me in order to displace me. I am not willing to leave my homestead as I have nowhere to go,” she said.
Iwanani who did not object to any of the allegations agreed to keep his distance from his grandmother and her children.
Plumtree magistrate, Mr Gideon Ruvetsa told Iwanani that he was prohibited from threatening, assaulting, insulting or provoking Dube.
He also told him that he was prohibited from invading the premises of his grandmother.
