CLOSE to 1 400 Chisumbanje farmers have benefited from ethanol producing giant, GreenFuel’s corporate social responsibility efforts.

Each farmer received 0.5 hectares pieces of land set aside from the company’s land.

A total of 83 beneficiaries received land fully equipped with drip irrigation facilities.

This emerged during a familiarisation tour of the GreenFuel projects by Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Nokuthula Matsikenyeri yesterday (Thursday).

The company’s community relations manager, Mrs Merit Rumema-Sibanda, said the move will help in improving the farmers’ livelihoods.

GreenFuel has also increased its hectarage from 6 000ha to 7 000ha and its goal is to reach the 40 000ha mark in sugarcane farming.

She also said GreenFuel on Wednesday scored a first in its records when it exported 10-megawatts of electricity to the national grid. Initially the company was exporting five megawatts.

Minister Matsikenyeri praised the company’s model corporate social responsibility efforts.
