A meeting with God is what newly formed youthful choir Arise wants people to experience during their debut concert at Selborne Park Christian Church in Bulawayo next Saturday.
The 35-member choir whose age range is 14 to 31 was formed by the church this year.
A concert will be held by the choir next Saturday from 5PM with tickets already on sale at the church.
Arise Choir director Melissa Sibanda said it has been great seeing how the choir members have grown and gelled as a team.
She said they were just vessels that are being used and hoped that during the show, people will meet God.
“Our main objective is for the people to feel the heart of the Lord through our singing. We’d like someone not to walk out of the concert and saying that was great music, but to actually feel the love of God afterwards,” said Sibanda.
“We’re trying to show people that through worship, you can connect with the Lord at the end of the day.”
Some of the choir members have been writing songs for the choir that will be featured at the concert while the other songs are for their upcoming album whose launch date will be announced later.
Most of the choir members have no music background hence they have enlisted the help of people like Blessing Stot of Outfit Band to help fine-tune their sound.
One of the choir members Willard Gwekwerere said: “I’ve no musical background but being part of the choir has been a good learning experience. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lord has for the choir and for me as an individual.”
The pastor in charge of the choir Levy Masuku said they want to mould upright citizens who love God.
“We want these young men and women to be groomed into very responsible citizens as they raise their families and serve Jesus Christ,” said Masuku.
The idea of the choir was mooted last year after the church’s international youth camp at Shalom Campsite in Matopos.
