Speaking at the funeral parade for Group Captain Chasakara at Manyame Airbase yesterday Air Vice Marshal Shumbayaonda described the former as an upright officer and administrator who remained unwavering in his dedication to duty.
“It was indeed shocking and quite disheartening to learn that such a hard working, loyal and experienced officer could be taken away from our midst when his services were still critically required in the AFZ and the ZDF family as a whole.”
He said Group Capt Chasakara was a hardworking father who looked after his family well.
Grp Capt Chasakara was born on September 23 1963 in Harare.
He was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army as a Sergeant in November 1982 and was transferred to the AFZ in October 1984 as an officer cadet.
He was commissioned to the rank of Air Sub Lieutenant in February 1985 and rose through the ranks.
He was promoted to the rank of Group Captain in 2004, a rank he held until his untimely death.
Group Capt Chasakara was one of the first black pilots to be trained to fly the F7 Interceptor Aircraft by the Chinese.
He was part of the officers who took part in the Mozambique and Democratic Republic of Congo campaigns.
Group Captain Chasakara is survived by his wife Angeline and two children.
He will be buried today at his rural home Mazimauya Village in Mutasa district.
