A GUEST lost her vehicle, which her driver had parked in the parking lot of a leading Harare hotel, after it was towed by someone who claimed she was the owner of the car.
Nyasha Apphiah Musavengana lost her Mercedes Benz C200 ( AFZ 2218).
Her driver, Tinashe Muchichwa, had parked the car at Rainbow Towers Hotel Car Park.
Eugins Mahadi is alleged to have stolen the vehicle after fooling the security guard that she was the owner of the vehicle.
Eugins arrived at the hotel car park driving a black Isuzu Twin Cab and was being escorted by a breakdown wrecker, a Manda T35 (AFX 0661), from LM Towing.
She instructed the driver of the wrecker to tow away the Mercedes Benz.
The security guard, Simba Maambirwi, 47, of Trust Me Security Company, inquired about what was happening.
Eugins identified herself, gave him her national identity card and said she was the owner of the white Mercedes Benz and she had lost the car keys.
Simba made an entry in the security guard’s Occurrence Book and the car was towed away.
Tinashe discovered the offence at around 11am when he wanted to leave the hotel.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating a car theft case,” said Insp Chakanza.
“The vehicle was parked at a local hotel.
“Total value of the vehicle is US$10 000 and nothing has been recovered,” said Insp Chakanza.
