ZIMBABWE junior squash sensation, Ryan Gwidzima, was knocked out in the first round at the at the 2020 German Junior Open.
Gwidzima started the campaign with a loss to India’s Ayaan Vaziraali after going down 3-2 (11-9, 5-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-8) in their opening encounter on Thursday.
The teenager, however, bounced back yesterday after he defeated Finland’s Kaiusi Puura in the play-offs for the position 33-48.
The match ended 11-2, 11-0, 11-1 in favour of Gwidzima yesterday.
He will today face Ireland’s Tristan Snodgrass in his quest for a better placing.
This year’s edition of the German Junior Open had a record number of athletes after 260 participants, from 30 countries, applied to take part.
The early exit should have come as a big blow to Gwidzima who was named Young Sportsman of the Year at the 2019 ANSA awards.
He will take on Tristan Snodgrass today at 12 pm.
