UNREPENTANT thief Romeo Kurai Pemba has been charged with nine counts of unlawful entry after breaking into several Government offices, including the office of the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, who among other duties, is responsible for the police.
Pemba appeared in court yesterday, where Harare Magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai denied him bail.
Pemba has a history of similar offences, having been previously convicted for breaking into the Harare Magistrates’ Court in 2016.
The State, represented by Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawo, alleged that on June 18, at Mukwati Building in Harare on the 17th floor, Pemba unlawfully entered the Office of the President and Cabinet.
He reportedly forced open the door and gained entry without permission from the lawful occupant, Ulathi Hlongwane.
During this break-in, he allegedly stole two HP laptops, a keyboard and central processing units.
In a second count, he is accused of entering the same premises and stealing three All-in-One HP desktop computers.
On July 4, Pemba allegedly broke into the Zimbabwe Statistics Agency offices at Kaguvi Building in Harare, where he stole two All-in-One HP desktops.
Continuing his criminal spree, Pemba reportedly broke into the offices of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage at Mukwati Building on August 2, stealing four All-in-One Core i7 computers.
On August 29, he struck again at the Home Affairs office at Mukwati Building, taking another All-in-One computer, a desktop, an HP power pack, and two novels.
That same night, he allegedly broke into the offices responsible for Gender Mainstreaming, Industry and Wellness at Mukwati Building, stealing yet another All-in-One desktop.
In his most recent offence, he reportedly entered the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage section, specifically within Minister Kazembe’s office, where he stole an All-in-One computer and a power pack.
