‘Hairspray’: A feel-good musical

Harare’s Reps Theatre.
Based on the John Waters cult film of 1988, the musical was first staged in the mid-2000s and was a great success on Broadway and in London’s West End.
It features Tracy, an ordinary girl from an ordinary household in 1962 Baltimore, USA, and her wish to see racial integration become a reality in a polarised society.
Through the medium of dance and a popular television show she does just that.
“Hairspray” is a fun family musical with broad general appeal and it runs at Reps until Saturday October 27, with evening performances most nights and afternoon matinees until October 20.
Directed by Zane E. Lucas and Sue Bolt, musical direction is by Renee Mostert and choreography by Michelle Nativel. Stars of the show include Nicola Kinnaird, Richard Sticklen, Larry Greeff, Marc Thomas, Faith Ganyau and a cast of more than 20 others, including newcomers to the local stage.
