Harare City Council has demolished the makeshift structures at Ngezi Restaurant in Milton Park, a well-known eatery operating from a residential property without proper authorisation.

The restaurant was reportedly operating illegally, and the demolition is part of the city’s efforts to combat land invasion and uphold urban planning regulations.

When The Herald visited the scene today, the council’s team had already departed, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

The structures, including the makeshift kitchen, chairs, and tables, lay scattered on the ground.

Visibly shaken workers were turning away clients at the gate, directing them to the restaurant’s other branch in Eastlea.

Some workers sat on the ground, distraught, with others burying their faces in their hands.

The alleged owner of the restaurant declined to comment saying, “Yes, Harare City demolished our structures, but we’re not going to give any comment. You can leave.”

Harare City Council spokesperson Mr Stanley Gama said he is yet to receive a full update on the demolition.

However, sources close to the operation said the demolition is part of a broader crackdown on unauthorised structures, adding that similar demolitions have taken place in Waterfalls.

  1. That’s our City of Harare now to be renamed “HARARE DEMOLISHERS”. They have nothing to offer but chaos, complete disorder and confusion. At one point I thought it was because it is an opposition led counsil but now, it looks like even the Government is behind thgis rote. People can be talked to, they can be taken to courts of law and even fined. But in our country it’s all about fixing people.
