alongside another kwaito sensation called Character for what has been dubbed “serious partying” at the upmarket club.
The duo will be supported by some of Harare’s talented performers, among them rhumba-plus star Madiz, Dija, Trae Yung and Noxa.
Resident disc jockeys led by Dollar Bill, Ben, Wale, Luckerz and Seductive Gee will be mixing things on the decks until the early hours of the morning.
According to the organiser of the show, Hweva Mvura aka Dollarbill, the kwaito stars are expecting to set the roof on fire with some magical dance moves and spanking new vibes.
“The last time we brought DJ Cleo we had a massive crowd and this time around we expect a bigger crowd. However, we are going to have the VIP area where after the performance Professor and his group will relax for a while with the fans.
“The party will continue with DJs on the turntables until very late. If you are a kwaito fan then you have to be at the club early so that they don’t miss the gig,” he said.
Last year Professor, with his popular album, “University of Kalawa Jazmee”, scooped three awards. The man vindicated the popular Durban kwaito sound when he won Best Kwaito Male Artiste of the Year and MTN Record of the Year with the hit single “Lento”.
Professor holds the distinguished honour of staying true to the music and message reflecting today’s urban culture of post-apartheid South Africa.
According to the Vega Records website: “Without question, he (Professor) is lyrically skilled at imparting an important lesson: music is a universal language. The songs ‘Imoto’ and ‘Jezebel’ are deeply rooted in the distinctive sound of kwaito, which evolved in the 1990s in townships and continues to reflect the influences of South African music and politics, hip-hop and house.
“On both popular dance tracks, Professor liberally applies a choice mix of hard-driving beats and strong bass lines, percussive loops and precisely delivered vocals over hypnotic instrumentals. Early in his career, Professor made a name for himself when Oskido paired him with another Durban kwaito artiste, T’Zozo. The 2005 collaboration produced a pivotal hit and South African dance anthem, ‘Woz ’e Durban’, and signaled the start of something big.”
Meanwhile, “Senior Lecturer” Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria makes a return to Harare pleasure spots when he partners Leonard Zhakata for a gig at Miami Sports Bar in Sunningdale today.
The left-handed guitarist has been playing mostly in remote areas but this time he has shifted his focus to venues in Harare where he also commands a huge following.
His combination with Zhakata will without doubt cause fireworks considering that the duo are among the country’s polished musicians whose music careers span for many years.
Madzibaba is expected to churn out his hits like “Mazano” among others that endeared him to his legion of fans.
His lead guitar-playing skills are also out of this world and he has been rated as one of the country’s best guitarists in sungura music.
As usual, his nimble-footed dancers popularly known as the Stork Birds whose dance routines on the dance floor are a marvel to watch, will enhance Madzibaba’s act.
Revellers will also have a chance to sample new songs from the artiste.
Zhakata will alternate with the goatie-bearded musician on stage and his Zora rhythms are a favourite with music lovers.
Riding on the crest of a wave following the success of his album, “Gotwe — Last Born”, which was released last year, Zhakata’s career has had a resurgence and he has proven why he deserves to be on top of the music game.
Apart from tracks off the album, Zhakata is expected to play some of golden hits like “Mugove”, “Maruva Enyika”, and “Pakuyambuka” among others.
It will without doubt be a clash of the music titans.
