THE Hartzell High School orphaned girl sexual abuse case could not be heard at the Mutare magistrate’s court on Wednesday after police did not bring the docket to court saying the accused person had gone for a funeral. An Advanced Level Science teacher at the school, William Mukwindidza is alleged to have slept with and infected an orphan (name withheld) with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). PID is one of the most serious complications of a sexually transmitted disease in women.
Mutare public prosecutor Mr Andrew Motsi confirmed that the docket is still in possession of police at Penhalonga and it was not clear by Wednesday whether police had already gathered statements from the medical practitioners who treated the minor after the abuse.
“We have failed to proceed with the case because the police at Penhalonga are still in possession of the docket. It was after I had phoned them that I was informed that the accused person has gone for a funeral. “It is not clear to me yet whether police had already gathered statements from the medical practitioners at who treated the minor of after the abuse, as I requested,’ said Mr Motsi.
The case was set to appear before the courts a fortnight ago but the State could not proceed after discovering that statements from medical practitioners who treated the minor of the STI had not yet been recorded, exactly two weeks after the State had issued an instruction for that to be done. The docket was then referred back to police and by the time of going to Press on Wednesday, the docket was still in possession of the police.
