The national league finally made a comeback on the local scene after the pilot project was cancelled last year when some of the teams failed to meet the requirements set by the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association.
Some failed to fulfill their matches.
Hawks beat JS Harare 3-1 in their first match of the league on Saturday and went on to thump Black Rhinos 3-0 in their second match on Sunday.
Bulawayo giants Railstars beat NABA 3-0 in their opening match before they overpowered JS Harare with the same margin.
Hawks’ technical director, Erasmus Mupukuti said the introduction of the national league was a positive move for the development of the game as it creates a competitive competition for local clubs.
“The national league reflects the competitiveness of the Zimbabwe volleyball clubs.
“It guarantees competition for the top clubs in the country which they are not getting regularly in their provinces.
“Competition increases when clubs compete at national level,” said Mupukuta.
ZVA secretary Ringisai Mapondera said they hope to complete the games in October.
“The games went well. The competition was quite competitive which is what we would want to see in the league and some of the teams will improve as we progress.
“Some of the clubs need to boost their teams by getting experienced players.
“Hawks and Railstars are the teams to look out for in the league.
“We are aiming to finish the league by October,” said Mapondera.
