A NYANGA super-dad headman was last week dragged to court by Crossdale Primary School over his failure to settle school fees arrears of $1 650 for his 14 children enrolled at the school.
Lovemore Madongonda (42) from Muwi Village in Chief Saunyama’s area is denying the charges, arguing that he could not pay for services not rendered since the school was in the habit of barring his children from attending classes since 2012 due to the fees arrears.
The civil suit, which was supposed to be presided over by Nyanga provincial magistrate Mr Ignatio Mhene, failed to kick off after Madongonda argued that he was not served with the court papers on time for him to prepare his defence.
Mr Mhene said the judiciary system does not apply guerilla tactics of ambushing parties in a matter before the courts.
It emerged that the summons were served to the wrong person. A new date will be set after new summons are properly served on Madongonda.
However, Madongonda, argued that he owes the school $630 as his 14 children were constantly out of schools after being barred from attending classes since 2012.
“There are many other parents in the same predicament and l am taking this initiative as the headman. The school did not give our children their end of term reports and they were being constantly chased away to collect outstanding fees since 2012. At times they were barred from attending classes when their peers were busy writing examinations. The teachers would mark the children present, yet they were barring them from attending classes. I am ready to bring them here to testify,” fumed Madongonda.
Another parent, Wonderful Nyamugafata, who is in the same scenario after his two children were not given end of term reports, concurred with Madongonda.
