CONTINUOUS rains and heavy winds will continue being experienced in most districts of Manicaland Province after Tropical Storm Ana made a landfall yesterday.
However, the landfall did not have the expected intensity.
The radical extent of Tropical Storm Ana’s cloud system, which is covering the entire Manicaland Province, has seen Nyanga and Chisengu (near Chimanimani) recording the highest rainfall of 121mm and 80mm respectively.
In a statement today, the Metrological Services Department said: “The centre of the Overland Depression Ana is currently to the north east of Zimbabwe and moving westward along the Zambezi Valley. At current speed and direction, which may change radically, it is expected to reach the western parts of the Zambezi Valley by tomorrow (Wednesday), giving heavy rains along its paths.
“Continuous rains are expected in districts such as Chipinge Chimanimani, Mutare, Mutasa and Nyanga, among others, from today into tomorrow. Localised heavy downpours and strong winds are probable.”
In Rusape urban, it has been raining non-stop since yesterday.
This has left many gravel roads no longer trafficable.
Tropical Storm Ana has not had the expected intensity in Chipinge District.
The rains are expected to ease off from Thursday.
Elsewhere, intermittent rains, wind gusts, coupled with cloudy and mild conditions are anticipated for much of the period.
The country is presently in the alert zone and people are being advised to remain vigilant and follow the latest weather forecasts and updates.
People have also been advised to take precaution where necessary.
