HERENTALS head coach Celestino Benza was full of praise on his players when they finished the season on a high note after dismissing visiting ZPC Kariba 3-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro yesterday.

“The Students” as Herentals are affectionately known had not scored in the previous eight matches and an opening goal from Prince Mahembe in the 12th minute opened ZPC Kariba’s demolition as Herentals dictated the pace in the first-half.

An assist by Innocent Benza three minutes after the resumption of the second-half, deflated ZPC Kariba’s hopes as Blessing Phiri made it 2-0 with substitute John Zhuwawo adding the last goal on the stroke of full time in the 93rd minute.

Benza said the game was good and they will go to the season break with high hopes of doing well next season.
“It was quiet an interesting game, we managed to dominate from the start and scoring three goals is no fluke. We had not scored in so many games but today (yesterday) it was a different story.

“We were targeting a top four finish but, somehow we lost our way, a top eight finish isn’t that bad. We have a good side, which competed well throughout the season and we hope to build from that base next season.

“We will start building now for next season and hopefully, we will have a crack at something big,” said Benza.
ZPC Kariba coach Newton Chitehwe was not happy with his boys’ performance, especially in the first half where he said they lost the ball unnecessarily.

“We tried hard but it was a bad day in office for us. We will try and improve come next season. The team improved this year as we have been battling relegation in the past seasons but we improved this year, so we look forward to the upcoming season,’ said Chitehwe.
