Hifa happy with outcome

Organisers of the just ended Harare International Festival of the Arts said they are happy that the festival was a success despite having faced some economic hardships.A total 192 performances were held on all platforms excluding the workshops with a total of 1 328 artists taking part.

Of the 1 328 artists, 1 041 were Zimbabwean artists and 287 artists from visiting countries from Asia, Europe, North and South America and also Oceania.

This year’s Hifa which ran from April 28 to May 3 under the theme “Articulate” saw a number of both local and international artists collaborating on stage.

In a statement, HIFA spokesperson Tafadzwa Simba said the environment in which the festival was being prepared and held was challenging but it was successful.

“In spite of the harsh economic environment and the pressures on audience’s disposable income, a miracle has transpired in the successful hosting of HIFA 2015.

“As indicated in previous media briefings, the environment in which HIFA 2015 was being prepared and held was extremely challenging.

“The actual figures of audience members who did come in the end is being verified and will be communicated once the report from Computicket is submitted,” he said.
