Highlanders FC fans divided over Andrew Mbeba’s house demand

HIGHLANDERS vice captain Andrew Mbeba has sparked heated debate among Bosso supporters after taking a firm stance in ongoing contract negotiations, insisting he will not sign a new deal unless a house is included as part of his signing on package.

The 25 year old defender, a product of Highlanders’ youth system, has not been attending training since the 2026 PSL pre season began, signalling one of the most decisive positions of his career. Mbeba has reportedly made it clear that verbal assurances are insufficient, setting the stage for a high stakes stand off between player and club.

The Chronicle’s Facebook page was flooded with reactions from supporters, with opinions sharply divided. Many fans sympathised with Mbeba’s demands, citing football as a short career and the need for players to secure their futures.

Patrick Ndlovu wrote: “Football is a short career. He deserves a house.” Philani Ndlovu added: “He deserves it. Give the boy what he deserves.”

Others highlighted Mbeba’s loyalty to the club and leadership qualities.

Mtha MT Bajila commented: “Surely Andrew deserves a house, he has been loyal to the club since development and a good leader also. The team should not let him go, give him a house plus a car.”

Nomvelo Ndlovu echoed the sentiment: “Clever boy.”

Some supporters suggested practical solutions, proposing a multi year contract tied to the house, while others emphasised fair treatment.

Fortune Nlandu Moyo wrote: “Give him a house and ask that he signs a 3-year contract – a win-win situation.”

However, a significant number of fans questioned the club’s ability to meet such demands, citing financial constraints.

Ncagu Sbhamusogodo KaSibungusodaka said: “BOSSO CAN’T HONOUR THAT LOOKING AT THEIR FINANCIAL CHALLENGE. OTHER PLAYERS MAY MAKE THE SAME REQUEST. WE HAVE TO ALLOW HIM TO MOVE.”

Collen Mdlongwa added: “We have to be realistic. Bosso is not owned by a rich magnet; it’s just a community team. To ask the club to buy a house is complicated.”

Some comments went further, criticising the club’s leadership and management.

Tata Ncube wrote: “The current Bosso executive doesn’t even hold enough intellectual capacity…An executive that is so good at blundering, it’s as if they are paid for it.”
Keepwell Zuzumbe also highlighted poor management: “Highlanders poor management and lack of foresight brought the team to this chaos.”

Fans also raised broader questions about player welfare and the sustainability of contracts at Highlanders.
Mandla Khumalo noted: “I don’t know if I’m the one who doesn’t have knowledge, but how come Bosso doesn’t have money since the stadium is always full? Isn’t that money from supporters?”

Others explained that only a portion of gate takings goes to the club, with the rest going to the city council.
