Highlanders goes for stability

IT’S election season again at Highlanders Football Club and two candidates seeking re-election are hoping club members will go for stability rather than rocking the boat in elections set for early next month.

Club vice-chairman Modern Ngwenya and treasurer Donald Ndebele are seeking three-year mandates at the Bulawayo giants.

“There is no reason or logic to repair what is unbroken .The coming in of the new chairman Kenneth Mhlophe added value to the brand because he hit the ground running. With a fully fledged executive we did well by signing Bukhosi Sibanda, Prince Dube and Nqobizitha Masuku. We are indeed in the ascendancy mode and hope the club members will vote for stability instead of rocking the boat,” said Ngwenya.

He faces a challenge from Longwe Ndlovu.

“My desire to finish off what we started is the reason why I want to finish my last term as vice chairman of our team Highlanders. In spite of the harsh economic climate, we have managed to keep our club going and stop any increase on our debt, which I believe is a plus on our side,” added Ngwenya.

The elections are on 3 February.

Nomination forms are ready for collection.

For one to pick up the form, they need to pay a deposit of $200 which is refunded if the candidate gets at least 10 percent of the total votes cast.

While there is usually excitement with the vice-chairman’s post, there is usually little enthusiasm when it comes to the treasurer’s position. Ndebele defeated banker Charles Ndlovu in the last election in 2016.

Ndebele has confirmed that he will stand for re-election.
