HILLCREST College learners’ dominance in sporting and academic endeavours continues as three of them will have their prowess in the game of rugby tested at a higher level when they take part in national trials this weekend.
Over the years, the private institution has produced world-class athletes, the most recent being Olympians, Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe ‘Carlie’ Makarawu.
Only this week, in the Under-18 age group, speed merchant and multi-talented sportsman, Arab Chimuchembere, was selected as a fullback, while in the Under-17s Charles Chave, a prop, and Cloudy Mapepa, a scrum-half, will all take part in the national trials.

The trio were set to leave Mutare on Thursday (yesterday) for Midlands Christian College, then proceed to Falcon on Friday (today) morning for the national trials.
Their coach, Prosper Mubaiwa, confirmed the development.
“For the Under-18s age group, we have Arab Chimuchembere who was selected as a fullback, while in the Under-17s we have Charles Chave, a prop, as well as Cloudy Mapepa, a scrum-half. The three will all take part in the trials. They left Mutare on Thursday (yesterday) for Midlands Christian College, then proceed to Falcon on Friday morning for the national trials,” he said.
Mubaiwa expressed confidence that the trio will make a huge impact at the trials.

“I know the boys have what it takes to make it all the way, but you know the nature of trials, you need to show up and play on the day so we will just see how it goes,” said Mubaiwa.
Meanwhile, schoolboy rugby kicked off with Hillcrest College winning home and away fixtures, while Mutare Boys’ High will play Lord Brighton College at Mutare Boys’ High School this weekend.
