AS far as people are concerned there are carpets and area rugs and that’s it. Most homeowners are concerned about furniture and other things, turning a blind eye on small things like area rugs that can either beautify or destroy the looks of their homes.
Mr Freeman Chikowe, a carpet expert gives people advice on different types of area rugs that they may use in their homes.
“It is easy to make a mistake when it comes to area rugs and most of the times people do not realise that it is the small mistakes that make a home lose its harmony as well as unity,” he said.
“Just like mats, carpets are also deemed trivial because they are placed on the floor and what is important is what comes on top of the mat or area rug. That is the mistake that people make in their homes,” said Mr Chikowe.
He said there are a variety of area rugs that people can select from, some may differ in names and sizes but they serve the same purpose.
“There are different types of area rugs that homeowners may choose from and I will suggest some that will do the trick in your home. There are mamluck, carrera, pronto, conrad, dawn, sonoma which is a replica of a handmade mat, enzo is perfect for bedrooms and lounge because of its fluffiness, Portland and flora. These are all area rugs that you may use for your home, they serve the same purpose they may differ on thickness but the rest is the same,” he said.
Mr Chikowe explained that there are fitted carpets that can also enhance the look of your home.
“Fitted carpets are divided into industrial carpets and home carpets. In industrial carpets we have Berber points, 950 and 920 which only differ in thickness. I would suggest this type only in a place where there is high traffic like the hallway because they are mostly used in offices and churches,” he said.
Mr Chikowe said: “To make things for homeowners they can select from these types, the conqueror, origin, air sacks, stone ridge, super weave, essence for your bedroom is perfect because of its softness and vinyl tiles are placed in the kitchen because they are easy to maintain.”
He said there are some area rugs and carpets that are for walls and they can change look, atmosphere and mood of your home.
“Placing carpets and rugs on the wall needs more attention because when placed correctly they can elevate the look of your space but when done incorrectly they can destroy everything. For your walls I would suggest that you use colour ribs also known as marine carpets,” said Mr Chikowe.
He emphasised that there is no need for people to avoid using small rugs if they have tiles because there is a solution for everything.
“Most of the times people avoid placing small rugs because they are afraid of the slippery floors, especially tiles. People can buy any type of rugs and use anti-glide underneath to avoid slipping,” he added.
