ONE of the most notorious criminal robbers to ever live, Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Barrow were a pair that wreaked havoc across the central United States during the great depression era.
Along with their gang of robbers, the duo committed over a dozen or so bank robberies, but actually preferred to rob smaller stores and rural gas stations.
However, it seems their spirits still live on through a notorious Cowdray Park gang which has also wreaked havoc around the city, robbing houses, tuck shops and hijacking some Honda Fits taxis, stealing money and properties from them.
However, the gang leader Farai Ncube (29) was caught and arrested when police raided his house in Cowdray Park. The two other members of the group are still at large and their identities unknown.
One of the victims Melody Mudima told the court that she was on duty as guards with her colleague Jongwe Mwembe at Fairwind Supermarket at Charlet Business Centre in Mbembesi when Ncube and his gang attacked them armed with machetes and iron bars.
“They flashed us with a torch and started throwing stones at us. We soon realised we were under attack then ran to our residential cottages for safety,’’ said Mudima.
“They followed us and Mwembe was hit on the ribs with a stone. We changed route and ran to the nearby bush, thereby leaving the premises at the mercy of Ncube and his compliances,’’ she added.
Ncube and his gang caught up with the two guards and forced them to open their residential cottages.
Ncube entered Mwembe’s cottage and stole a black satchel and proceeded to the next cottage where they broke the padlock securing the door and stole two phones, a Samsung Pocket and Nokia.
On 11 August 2018 at around three in the morning at Gadadi Business Centre in Fort Rixon, Ncube raided Munyaradzi Manhenhe’s home. After finding nothing Ncube allegedly tried to kill Manhenhe by striking him with an iron bar on the head and right hand.”
Ncube was sentenced to 24 years for eight counts of robbery and three years for attempted murder and the judge indicated that the jail terms were made lengthy in order to deter other would-be offenders.
Police have advised citizens to refrain from criminal activities and have urged people to report crimes so that criminals can be caught and sent to jail.
Police have also pleaded with the public to bring forward any information which might lead to the arrest of the culprits at large.
