A 29-year-old man from Spring Village in Nyanga will perform 140 hours of community service after he was convicted of physically abusing his wife at the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court.
The accused person was initially sentenced to four months in prison, which was wholly suspended on condition that he performs 140 hours of community service.
The court heard that on October 14, at around 8 pm the complainant (23) was at home when the accused person returned home drunk.
The accused person stood by the door smoking his cigarette. He asked the complainant why there was a lady in their bedroom and she told him that she was a visitor.
This did not go down well with the accused person who slapped the complainant once on her left cheek before punching her in the face and all over the body. The complainant sustained injuries as a result of the assault.
