I aspire to reach Samanyanga’s level: King Shaddy

DANCEHALL chanter King Shaddy, whose real name is Shadreck Kwarire, aspires to follow the footsteps of superstar Oliver ‘‘Tuku’’ Mtukudzi and take his music beyond borders.
King Shaddy, who is expecting to release his fourth album this month (August) titled ‘‘Endless Ideas’’, revealed this after his energetic performance last Friday in Mutare at Soul City Club.

He said he had already finished recording all the 12 tracks on the album and was waiting for his producer, Mac-D, to return from Canada and master the final product.

The ambitious chanter, who has so far proved his mettle as a talented artiste with chartbusters on all his previous three albums, said his dream was to become internationally known and create timeless music just like Tuku-music.
“Creating a hit song is one thing, but keeping a name and producing timeless hit songs like Tuku is special.

“I aspire to reach the level of Tuku and become a brand regionally and internationally. This is my dream,” said King Shaddy.

He said he has been sending his videos on Channel O with the last video being Sahwira featuring gospel crooner Mathius Mhere.

Sahwira is also currently doing well on the Power FM top 10 charts.

King Shaddy, who has been in the dancehall industry since 2008, said dancehall popularity was growing in Zimbabwe and internationally.

He started his Macorokoza label in 2011 after his United Kingdom tour, which he said has been slowly growing with several budding dancehall artists singing like Junior King.

The Mai Huni hitmaker added that his fans can brace for bigger things from him in the near future as he is destined for greatness.

Soul City co-director Tichaona Zhuwau, popularly known as DJ Fresh, said he was happy with the show and they will be lining up several other shows in August.
