Tuku to play special request songs

tukuIT is not every-day that fans have an opportunity to have their special requests played during a live show especially when it is by an iconic musician such as superstar Oliver ‘‘Tuku’’ Mtukudzi.
The unique Mutare show set for Motoring Club next Sunday will allow Tuku fans an opportunity to have their special requests played during the show.

The Heroes eve show will also be supported by Peter Muparutsa and the Runn Family and local dancehall sensation I-Phinton.

Muparutsa, the founding member of the Runn Family, recently regrouped the outfit and launched their latest album ‘‘Echo of a child’s anthem’’ last month in Harare and Mutare respectively.

The Runn Family Band was a hit in the 1980s and played an integral part in the history of Zimbabwe’s music.

Back in the days, the group released a string of hit singles which literary became national anthems like Hatichina Wekutamba Naye, a tribute to the late President of Mozambique Samora Machel, Gumbo Mumba-Gumbo Kunze, Moyo Muti, Inhapitapi Chete and Ishe Komborerai, to mention a few.

Mutare Motoring Club spokesperson Lovemore Chitima said the special request idea was meant to bring the superstar up-and-close with his Mutare fans.

“This is an exclusive show to allow Tuku music fans the opportunity to be up-and –close with the superstar and have their special requests dedicated to them by Tuku personally.

“People can send their requests through The Manica Post feedback column on 0772 515 970 before August 4.

“The first preference for the request segment will, however, be for the first 30 people to buy their tickets in advance at Motoring Club,” said Chitima.

“This will no doubt be a special show for all Tuku music lovers. Even the old skool folks from back in the days of the Runn Family should brace for a treat at this show and re-live the good old days,” said Chitima.

Meanwhile, as a precursor to the Tuku show, Motoring Club has this week decided to move mountains by bringing some of the celebrated turntable masters on the land tomorrow (Saturday).

The club will host the best old school DJs in Chuman, Kudzi Marudza and D-Train.

“We want to have a new concept where revellers can bring their families for the afternoon open-air sessions. Mutare has been lacking in that regard and we want to address that by giving our valued revellers value for their money.

“We will be allowing patrons to drive in for the show and to be as close as possible to the DJs from the comfort of their vehicles.

“To drive in, one has to part with $5, while it will be $2 to use the normal gate. Our children should also be given a chance to unwind especially after finishing their mid-year examinations and preparing for the August school holidays.

“In short it will be a fun-filled weekend with lots of entertainment for everyone, so we hope to see the who-is-who of Mutare in attendance.

“Since summer is around the corner, we want to take this concept of open air to new levels and it will be a weekly feature,” said Chitima.
