I DESERVE MY FATE IN JAIL, SAYS TI-GONZI

JAILED musician T-Gonzi says his arrest, conviction and being sent to jail shows that no one is above the law.

He spoke to H-Metro at Harare Central Prison as other prisoners were being released through a Presidential Amnesty.

T-Gonzi was jailed for reckless driving and possession of illicit drugs.

He is part of the 2,260 inmates remaining at Harare Central Prison.

The musician is serving an effective eight-month jail sentence following a series of traffic violations, including shooting through a red light and possessing prohibited substances such as Broncleer syrup and marijuana.

“My arrest as a celebrity shows that no one is above the law,” he said.

“I commend our police officers and the judiciary for their diligent work.”

The artist acknowledged his own failings.

“I was not licensed to drive and the traffic police were just doing their job, as was the judiciary,” he said. “I’ve come to understand that a prison sentence is not just punishment, it’s an opportunity to correct one’s wrongdoings.

“If our judiciary continues to perform their duties without fear or favour, we can all learn from our mistakes.”

The incident that led to his arrest occurred on February 2.

T-Gonzi was pulled over for ignoring a traffic signal at the Mupedzanhamo intersection.

Despite being informed of his violations by a female police officer, he drove away towards Graniteside, along Cripps Road, demonstrating a complete disregard of the law.

Harare Central Prison is designed for a maximum of 1,128 inmates.

Sixty six inmates are expected to be released in batches under a staggered process.

“Today, I witnessed the beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty.

“I thank the President for offering inmates an opportunity to contribute positively to our country,” said Ti-Gonzi.

  1. Whoever considers idiots like T-Gonzi as celebrities should see a psychiatrist. It’s time we refer to these scumbags for what they are, real scumbags, decaying remnants of our society, scums of the earth! It’s shocking to find that low lives and drug junkies like these so called Zimdancehall artists are classified as celebrities, some to the extent of being granted heroes’ status at national level. Yet we want to clean up society of this riff raff. One has to be honest. Most of these young artists use drugs and yet we want to classify them as celebrities. What celebrities?
