The unite and pray sessions were led by Rev Tom Deuschle, Rev T O Chipunza and Pastor Dambaza, while various gospel artists provided praise and worship music.
The importance of praying for the nation is emphasised in the devotional Rhapsody of Realities’ October issue where Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy) on October 10 called on Christians to pray for peace in their cities.
Referring to Jeremiah 29:7, he says, “. . . the onus is on us to seek the peace of our cities . . . You should pray today, and for as long as it takes for peace to mantle the nations of the earth and rule the hearts of men all over the world . . .”
Psalm 124, a praise of deliverance from adversaries, gives meaning to last week’s unite and pray for Zimbabwe:
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel (Zimbabwe) say; If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us: Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
Sunday was also a unique day in this year’s calendar. It had a threesome — the tenth day of the tenth month in the tenth year of the first decade of the new millennium (10-10-10).
As a nation, we look back and count our blessings, despite the trials and tribulations.
