In-fighting rocks Shabanie

The verbal tirade comes after his team lost 2-0 at home to 2010 champions Motor Action, a result that saw the Chinda Boys surrender their second spot and drop to fourth on the standings.

The controversial Masomere revealed that the loss at Maglas Stadium on Sunday was met with celebrations by some members of the team management who are bent on seeing him lose his job.

“The guys here are not serious about football at all and they are actually happy that we lost to Motor Action. The way they look after me and the players is really disheartening, it’s like they want to push me out of my job,” said Masomere.
He said it would not be proper for him to publicly state the nature of the problems bedevilling the team.

He said while it has always been possible for him to step aside, management should know that he was not a desperate coach who looks for a job in order to pay school fees.

“I don’t want to be treated like a refugee who is given shelter and nothing else and if sponsors do not intervene in this madness, I can assure you that we will have serious problems and as for the championship, it will remain a mirage unless this nonsense stops forthwith,” said Masomere who won the championship with the then flamboyant AmaZulu in 2003.

Efforts to get a comment from club management were fruitless. On Sunday club patron Greg Mataka said the mine did not have money to help the club. Over 4 000 workers lost their jobs when the mine stopped production four years ago.

The defeat was the second at home after a similar loss to Highlanders a few months ago and they find themselves 10 points behind the Kelvin Kaindu-coached black and white army.

Highlanders have now reached the 18-game mark without defeat and are eight points ahead of their biggest rivals on the local scene, Dynamos, who chalked a 2-0 win over relegation favourites, Quelaton.

The race and shape of the Castle Lager Premiership log standings is now taking a familiar picture as the traditional giants are now occupying their rightful slots.

DeMbare though, have two games in hand and the sooner the powers that be fixture them on those games, the better for the soccer loving public and the rest of the teams in the league.

A loss in those games will surely render the league race a formality as Bosso are not in any way close to losing and even coach Kaindu now believes his opponents will find it hard to stop them.

“Anything can happen in football, yes, but we recorded a 100 percent record in the first half and I honestly think it will be difficult now for us to lose any games, trust me on that one,” said Kaindu after the match on Sunday.

A 19th minute brilliant header from Milton Ncube was enough to bag the three points for Highlanders in a match that was witnessed by living legends and national team coaches, Rahman Gumbo and Peter Ndlovu. Botswana-based former Highlanders coach Madinda Ndlovu, Willard Kumalo, who is coaching Strikers FC of Beitbridge, and goal-scoring sensation Tobias Mudyambanje were also present.

For those who were not at Barbourfields Stadium, the scoreline does not give a good picture of what was happening on the field of play as Bosso were bombarding their opponents from all angles but goals were not coming.

One player who would not want to have anything to do with Highlanders’ winger Masimba Mambare, is leftback Munyaradzi Kunyarimwe who spent the whole afternoon at the mercy of Mambare.

Gunners came to Bulawayo bubbling with confidence and threatening to stop the Bosso juggernaut but it was not to be and coach Thanks Tengwe gave credit to Highlanders soon after the match.

“Highlanders deserved to win because they played well. We gave them too much respect from the onset. We failed to even mark them especially on the wings where I think they were stronger but nevertheless I think my boys played very well and now the focus is on surviving relegation,” said Tengwe.

Fallen giants Caps United are emerging as candidates for relegation and the sooner they start collecting points the better because on Saturday, they lost their sixth match on the trot, going down 1-0 to Black Mambas and perhaps the sacking of Irishman Sean Connor was not the answer. There could be more to the problems than supporters are made to believe as new boss Taurai Mangwiro and his assistant Mkhuphali Masuku are yet to win in two games and even celebrate a goal at least.

Makepekepe lie 11th on the standings with just 19 points, a massive 23 points behind Highlanders, and are definitely out of the race except for the relegation one. Chicken Inn dropped six points in two weeks in the capital when they fell 1-0 to Monomotapa who are playing well at the moment and are now dark horses for the big one. The Gamecocks lie sixth with 29 points, the same number as FC Platinum who drew 0-0 with Hardbody in a Midlands derby.

The decision to fire Rahman Gumbo might as well backfire for chairman Tadson Zhou and crew.
