Buffaloes Football head coach Moses “Bambo” Chunga has appointed Joseph “Shabba” Takaringofa as his assistant, subsequently ending Timothy “Sicho” Masachi’s stay at the club. Takaringofa has been helping out Chunga since the start of the team’s pre-season training sessions at Mutare Showgrounds, together with the former Buffaloes player Eddie Dube.
Buffaloes organising secretary Arnold Gatsi confirmed the latest developments at the club.
“The coach is the one who chooses who he wants to work with. Takaringofa is now the assistant coach, Peter Masibeira will remain the goalkeepers’ coach while Eddie Dube will coach the juniors,” said Gatsi, who could not entertain further questions.
Takaringofa had a five-month stint with the Eastern Region Division One side Mutare City Rovers where he was shown the exit after a poor streak of results.
After his dismissal Shabba packed his belonging and headed for Harare where he was coaching Albun Academy.
When contacted for comment, Takaringofa did not say much except that he will work under Chunga and hopes to win everything on offer.
“It’s too early to say anything .I don’t have anything to say since I will be working under Chunga.
“All I can say is that I will help the team to win everything on offer,” said the former Tanganda and Caps United star.
As a player Takaringofa rose to popularity in the 90s. Shabba started his career at ZUPCO, which was in Division One, in 1991 while he was only 17.
The following year he moved to Tanganda before joining Caps United in 1995 where he played for two seasons.
At Caps he played a pivotal role and helped the club to win the Championship in 1996, BP Cup, Independence Trophy and Rosebowl Charity Shield in 1997.
In 1998 he had a stint with Jets where he featured in seven games and managed to score 10 goals.
The same year he moved to the Harare Giants Dynamos where he was forced to hang his boots due to a knee injury and turned into coaching.
