TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR have announced Igor Tudor as their new head coach but not without taking a dig at Thomas Frank.

The Croatian manager, 47, replaces Frank after he was sacked following a dismal 2-1 loss to Newcastle earlier this week. Tudor joins a Spurs side in crisis, hovering precariously over the relegation spots in 16th.

The club welcomed their interim boss until the end of the season in an official announcement, in which they left a subtle jab at their quality of the team’s performances under Frank.

The statement read: “Igor joins us with a clear focus — to improve performances, deliver results and move us up the Premier League table.

“His mandate is straightforward — bring organisation, intensity and competitive edge to the squad at a decisive stage of the campaign.”

Tudor brings experience from multiple spells in the dugout with Italian giants Juventus, for whom he made almost 175 appearances as a defender during his playing career. He has also managed Marseille, Lazio and Galatasaray, among others.

He said of his new role: “It is an honour to join this Club at an important moment.

“I understand the responsibility I have been handed and my focus is clear: to bring greater consistency to our performances and compete with conviction in every match.

“There is strong quality in this playing squad, and my job is to organise it, energise it and improve our results quickly.”

The new boss will face Arsenal in a heated North London derby next Sunday for his first game in charge. A loss could leave Spurs in a seriously concerning position, with Nottingham Forest potentially able to leapfrog them in their first game since sacking Sean Dyche.

A win for 18th-place West Ham would also allow them to close the gap to just two points, should the North Londoners fail to take any points against Mikel Arteta‘s men. — Sun
