The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa has implored the provincial Covid-19 taskforce to include religious and traditional leaders in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
In her briefing during a meeting of the provincial inter-ministerial taskforce on Covid-19 at Mutare Hall this afternoon, Minister Mutsvangwa said the Alpha and Delta variant numbers of local infections are rising daily, hence the need to partner with community leaders.
She said this will ensure that preventative guidelines are spread quickly and help in getting more people vaccinated.
“We have many new admissions to date and they are rising daily. The third wave is really serious and we need to intensify our campaigns and this can only be done via community leaders who include traditional and religious leaders. This is no time to relax, we need everyone on board,” she said.
Minister Mutsvangwa added that there is going to be a blitz to have people receive the jab as vaccination will be rolled out in border cities and towns, tobacco auction floors, cotton marketing depots and major construction sites.
She said this will enable the country to attain herd immunity in no time.
