The Regional Agency for Agricultural Promotion and Advocacy (ReAAPA) in collaboration with Shipping and Freight Agents’ Associations of Zimbabwe and Federation of Clearers and Forwarding Associations of Southern Africa will be hosting a two-day conference on July 9-10 this year in Harare. The conference will run under the theme “Enhancing Intra-trade Through Regional Integration”.
The conference intends to audit the achievements made towards enhancing regional trade within the COMESA and SADC regions, examine the accessibility, utilisation and compatibility of the available intra-trade facilities in the region and above all, to solicit feedback, experiences, opinions and recommendations from movers and users of such trade facilities.
ReAAPA regional manager Mr Retlaw Matorwa said the event is part of regional efforts to evaluate and assess the achievements made towards promoting intra-regional trade of agricultural products.
“There is need to harness opinions and expertise from the region with regards enhancement of intra-regional trade through interrogating various intra-regional trade instruments, facilities and polices in place, at the same time, address the key challenges facing agricultural trade in the region, what policy measures and strategic interventions to put in place,” said Mr Matorwa
Furthermore, the conference is designed to bring forth pertinent information on the challenges, strength and opportunities of regional trade.
In tandem with the conference, an expo showcasing leading service providers in the import-export value chains will be running.
The expo is designed to bring regional players from SADC and COMESA, providing an interaction platform to explore business opportunities and create possible strategic business synergies in the regions.
Regional bodies and institutions responsible for trade within the region have been invited to grace the occasion.
They will provide information and updates on recent developments aimed at facilitating the movement of goods and services across the borders of COMESA and SADC.
