INFRASTRUCTURE development across the country reached new heights in 2024, with several flagship projects implemented under the Second Republic, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, has said.
Dr Muswere said this during separate tours of Harare and Mashonaland East on Thursday and Friday, respectively, to take stock of signature Government projects in the two provinces.
Mash East
In Mashonaland East on Friday, the trip included visits to trademark projects like Chivhu and Muchekeranwa dams, and also the Mahusekwa District Hospital.
Speaking during the tour, Dr Muswere said: “Chivhu Dam represents an integration of several activities to ensure that the dam on its own is an integral part of the economy.
“It does not only become an end in itself but also develops many other tributaries related to tourism, domestic and industrial use of water and irrigation development, which development is currently supporting more than 70 households.”
He added: “The Muchekeranwa Dam project is an alignment of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) to Vision 2030 in that we want to guarantee food security for our country through damming infrastructure.”
Other projects that have recorded commendable progress in Mash East include the Hwedza to Mushandirapamwe roadworks and the rural town’s Government complex and Civil Registry offices.

Harare province
As the nation’s capital, Harare played a key role in not only transforming the city, but also driving the country’s progress towards becoming an upper middle-income society.
Among the notable achievements were the works on the Harare-Bindura highway up to the roundabout that connects to Boulevard Road, the Trabablas Interchange, the temporary Mbare Market and the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, all of which are expected to bolster the country’s infrastructure and economy in the coming years.
Among other flagship projects are the provision of housing units and construction of state-of-the-art shopping malls across the city.
During a tour of the projects on Thursday, Minister Muswere said Harare’s urban transformation during the past year highlights the Government’s commitment to improving citizens’ lives through strategic infrastructure development.
“These provincial media tours are a new media strategy that allows the media to interact with citizens and see first-hand the impact of these life-changing
projects.
“The tours, which will continue throughout the year, aim to strengthen the nation-building process by informing and involving citizens in the development journey,” he said.
