IT seems injuries continue to stalk former Soccer Star of the Year Tawanda Muparati as the midfielder was forced to watch the first half of this year’s Premiership season from the sidelines because of a knee injury.
Muparati recently switched base from champions Dynamos to How Mine hoping to revive a career that had been plagued by injuries during the 2013 season. But with the fixtures now out and the season ready for kick-off, it appears the former DeMbare vice-captain may have to go through the same agony he experienced last year when he failed to justify why he was chosen Soccer Star the previous season because of a nagging knee problem.
How Mine coach Luke Masomere told The Herald that Muparati took a fresh knock on the knee during their pre-season warm up match a few days ago.
“It doesn’t make sense to continue friendly games because we are getting too many injuries. But, apart from the injuries, I am happy with the way things have been going. We are looking forward to the start of the season,” said Masomere.
Meanwhile, Harare City coach Taurai Mangwiro says his side is now ready for the new season after taking his team on a two-week training camp which ended in Mutare yesterday.
The Sunshine Boys wrapped up their tour of the Eastern Highlands with two matches against Moses Chunga’s Buffaloes at Sakubva yesterday.
Mangwiro said the training camp was crucial for team building as he sought to bond old and new players ahead of the new season.
“We had about five friendly games in Mutare and in my own assessment, we should be ready for the season, only for a few grey areas,” said Mangwiro.
