THE Government has assured farmers that they will have their inputs under Presidential Inputs Scheme next week in time for the full commencement of the rainy season.
This was said by the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development minister Dr Anxious Masuka after touring a fertiliser plant at Reignbold Investment Private Limited in Harare yesterday.
He said by the end of next week, at least 30 000 tonnes will have reached all wards, allowing for an efficient distribution process.
Dr Masuka expressed optimism during his visit to Reinbold Investments.
He noted that the collaboration between Government and the private sector has resulted in an ample supply of fertiliser for farmers this season.
“For a very long time, the President has redirected his commitment to ensuring that each of the three million beneficiaries of the Presidential Input Scheme receive their basal dressing, top dressing, seed, and chemicals on time. We visited Reignbold Investments to assess progress in their delivery of essential basal fertiliser,” he said.
Dr Masuka confirmed that the company has already delivered 18 000 tonnes of the contracted 60 000 tonnes, with production capacity reaching between 1 500 to 2 000 tonnes per day.
The Government plans to launch the Pfumvudza initiative on November 7 in Insiza, reinforcing the importance of timely agricultural preparations.
“Farmers must continue to prepare their lands. Rains are expected by mid-November. There will be no shortages in terms of supply. The teams are working together to ensure that the movement of raw materials aligns with production capacity, ensuring that no one is left behind,” Dr Masuka said.
As the country gears up for the summer cropping season, Reignbold Investments Private Limited stands at the forefront of agricultural support, ensuring that farmers have the fertiliser they need to thrive.
The company has committed to improving local production and minimising imports, aligning closely with the Government’s vision of food and nutrition security.
This initiative is crucial, particularly in light of President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
Reignbold Investments Private Limited chief finance officer Mr Titus Maravanyika emphasised the company’s capacity to meet the demands of the upcoming season.
“As Reignbold Investments, we recognise the national significance of this programme and have put in place the required infrastructure. To date, we have completed 18 000 out of the 60 000 tonnes we are supposed to deliver. We assure the nation that by mid-November, we will have completed distribution,” he said.
This commitment is particularly vital, as the firm aims to support an estimated three million farmers by ensuring timely access to essential agricultural inputs.
Mr Maravanyika noted the company’s plans to increase its production lines, with the goal of being fully operational by the 2026-2027 season.
Furthermore, he highlighted an important shift towards localising production components.
“We plan to use resources from local sources like Dorowa Mine. Our company ensures that the three million farmers in rural areas receive inputs on time. So far, we have produced 18 million tonnes of fertiliser for farmers, and we hope to reach 30 000 tonnes by the end of next week,” he said.
