BENEFICIARIES of Spar Mutare social responsibility programmes have hailed the retail giant for braving the unfavourable economic environment and remaining committed to the growth and success of Manicaland Province. The organisation has for the past years partnered and provided aid to various institutions such as the Zororai Old People’s Home, Chengetai School, Probation Boys’ Home, St Werburghs School in Chigodora.

It also provides hampers, foodstuffs as well as financial assistance to various organisations on a monthly basis. And recently, the organisation handed over an industrial electric sadza cooker to 3 Infantry Brigade in Chikanga.

Representing Commander 3 Infantry Brigade, Lieutenant-Colonel Elijah Tatire hailed the donation saying it would go a long way in improving the catering services at the organisation.

“Let me acknowledge the mutual relationship that exists between my formation and the business community in and around Mutare. Let that mutual understanding be upheld forever.

“Hopefully this gesture shall be extended to others who are in dire need.  Let me hasten to mention that in needy times, very few friends are willing to assist and in our case Spar Supermarket has demonstrated that they are a friend indeed.

“Thank you for prioritising and recognising my brigade in line with your mission of working together with different stakeholders within the community of Mutare,” he said. Spar Mutare general manager Mr Tawanda Mukapa said the retail giant had managed to grow the Spar brand into a very “recognisable and leading retail brand not only in Mutare but Manicaland as a whole.

“It is not a secret that we have benefited a great deal from the peaceful and harmonious environment that exists in our beloved country of Zimbabwe, peace that is guaranteed by our distinguished members of the defence forces.

“We will remain committed to the success of the community as seen by the initiative that we have taken at various other institutions.
“Today’s donation is our first with the Zimbabwe National Army and it is our wish, desire and commitment to forge this relationship and keep on growing it,” he said.
