BULAWAYO’S longest-running arts festival, Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo, is seeking sponsorship to ensure its continuity after facing funding challenges that led to last year’s postponement from September to November.
Festival organisers have launched a fundraising initiative dubbed “Become a Friend of Intwasa,” aimed at supporting emerging artists.

Its director, Raisedon Baya, said the initiative will help create a dedicated stage for up-and-coming talent.
“We want to establish a special stage and venue focused on training and showcasing emerging artists. Supporters of this initiative will help us achieve that. This year, as we launch, ‘Friends of Intwasa,’ people will be contributing purely for the love of art and the upliftment of young creatives,” said Baya.
“In return, they will receive free entry to this specific venue and public acknowledgment for their support.”

The initiative seeks 50 supporters to each contribute US$20, which will go towards empowering young talents in poetry, hip-hop, dance, writing and music. The funds will facilitate innovative performances, helping emerging artists gain exposure, build confidence and develop their craft.
Additionally, organisers believe the initiative will foster unity within the creative and cultural industries.
Over the years, Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo has been instrumental in revitalising Bulawayo’s cultural scene through workshops, live performances, discussions, book launches, exhibitions and competitions. —@MbuleloMpofu
