HIGH-RIDING Scottland believe Saturday’s showdown against Dynamos is “not merely another fixture” and they feel they are justified in hiking gate charges.
Mabviravira, as Scottland are affectionately known, will host resurgent DeMbare at Rufaro and the cheapest ticket will cost $5, up from the usual $3.
Scottland are on a seven match winning streak while Dynamos have stitched up a three-match winning run under new coach Kelvin Kaindu.
While Dynamos are fighting against relegation, which is a rare phenomenon, Scottland are bidding to become the first team since 1984 to win the top-flight title in a debut season.
A swashbuckling Black Rhinos, who featured greats like Japhet Mparutsa, Stanley Ndunduma and Stanford “Stix” Mutizwa, were the last team to achieve such a feat.
Scottland have thrust themselves in a better position to emulate Black Rhinos with some big victories in recent weeks.
In between their seven-match winning streak is a 5-2 win against FC Platinum at Mandava, which Pure Platinum Play’s biggest defeat under Norman Mapeza.
Last weekend, Scottland thumped stubborn Herentals 3-1 at Rufaro, to push their tally to 52 points, one less than log leaders Simba Bhora.
“This match against Dynamos is not merely another fixture on the calendar. The intensity, the quality, and the magnitude of the stakes elevate it far beyond the ordinary,” Scottland CEO, Ronald Moyo, told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday.
Dynamos now look like a revamped side under Kaindu who joined the Glamour Boys from Highlanders last month.
Under the Zambian gaffer DeMbare have beaten MWOS, Kwekwe United and Greenfuel.
Dynamos are now on 25 points and three away from the safety zone.
Their fans have revived their affection for the club after several weeks of boycotts.
Dynamos attracted a good crowd when they beat Greenfuel 2-0 at Rufaro last Sunday.
The return of crowd puller Denver Mukamba has also ignited the vibe at the Harare giants.
“The revenue generated from such a premium occasion is not an end in itself, but a vital means to an end — a catalyst propelling our broader ambitions, both on the pitch and beyond it,” said Moyo.
The reverse fixture ended 1-0 in favour of Scottland.
Mabviravira also beat CAPS United by the same scoreline at the same venue.
