Godwin Muzari recently in Mutare—
A few months ago they were rumoured to be on a warpath, but Jah Prayzah and Suluman Chimbetu have solidified their combination through joint shows. They resumed joint shows last month and last Friday they went to Mutare where they shared the stage at The Platinum and left a mark in the Manicaland provincial capital. It seems they have planned the joint shows to counter the “bad blood” rumour.

Sulu and Jah’s combination bore the hit “Sean Timba” that is still one of the popular duets on the local scene. In Mutare they attracted a historic crowd. The musicians did well and gave the huge crowd outstanding acts. Although they could not perform the duet because Jah Prayzah was delayed due to congestion that was outside the venue, they did splendid separate performances.

Sulu was the first on stage and did most of his hits that excited the crowd. People sang along and danced to the dendera star’s tracks. He also played his late father Simon’s songs and presented an exciting playlist. The peak of his act was when he played “One Way” and some fans joined him on stage for serious dances.

Sulu’s choreography of the night was also spectacular and his front-line dancers were inspired by the support they got in Mutare. “We perform here many times but this was a unique show. The crowd was inspiring and they were very supportive. This is one of the good shows to remember and we thank the people of Manicaland for the support. We hope to return in the future for another show,” said Sulu.

There was a section of fans that came from Harare and made their presence felt as they cheered the musicians on.

Although Jah Prayzah could not make it to the stage in time for a performance of their duet, his arrival caused a stir outside the venue. People that had mobbed Sulu’s car as he went away also pressed towards Jah Prayzah when he arrived on foot at the venue. Hed left his car about 50 metres away due to congestion.

Jah Prayzah had a brief chat with Sulu and security members had a tough time dispersing ecstatic fans that jostled to get closer to the musicians. When Jah Prayzah finally rushed to the stage, there were wild cheers inside the venue. Fans screamed and jumped in apparent excitement.

Jah Prayzah belted hits from his album “Jerusarema” and people requested for repeats of most of the songs and the musician complied. He also performed his previous hits. His dancers were energetic as usual and gave fans the best. Songs “Eriza”, “Tiise Maoko” and “Chinamira” rocked the night.

Show organiser Isau Mupfumi, who is also Member of Parliament for Dangamvura-Chikanga, said he was glad people had come in numbers to have fun at the event that was also meant to celebrate his election to the house of assembly.

“The numbers are good and I am happy people came to celebrate with me. We went to surrounding areas like Nyazura, Rusape, Nyanga and Chimanimani advertising the show and people have come from all those areas and other have also come from as far as Marondera and Harare,” he said.

“The venue was under renovation and its re-opening has been fantastic. We will host Alick Macheso on November 6 while Oliver Mtukudzi and a number of dancehall musicians will also perform here before the end of the year. We have already talked to Soul Jah Love and he is coming soon.”
