A HARARE man repeatedly burns his wife’s clothes and destroys her phones because he suspects she is having extra marital affairs.

Given Chamura was dragged to the Harare Civil Court by Edina Mushonga who was seeking a protection order.

“He tears my clothes, saying I am sleeping around.

“Sometimes he burns my favourite dresses and skirts, saying they are too revealing.

“He is in the habit of destroying my phones claiming that l will talk to other men.

“This behaviour has been ongoing for several years, causing me significant emotional distress.

“I am tired of his constant fears of infidelity,” she said.

Given said he burnt his wife’s clothes and destroyed her phones because she was dressing in a provocative manner and flirting with other men.

“I was trying to protect her.

“My fear is that she will bring shame to my family,” Given said.

Magistrate Meenal Naratom said it was unacceptable and a clear violation of his wife’s rights.

She granted Edina a protection order and ordered Given to undergo counseling.
