DJ Jellyz is setting the country alight with a birthday bash which started last Friday and is expected to run until May 2.
Different events are being held on six separate days within that period. Jellzy, real name Gerald Themba, who turned 25 years old said the gigs will feature dancehall singers Guspy Warrior, Ricky Fire, Killer T and some of the country’s top DJs who include Judgement Yard’s Etherton B, 2 Bad and MC Konspirator, amongst others.

Jellyz is famous for his clique SOD which caused a stir last year with parties, fashion and music. Cliques are a social phenomena that has hit the capital city with groups having a common identity and vying to outdo each other in living large.

He said that the birthday bash started in Mutare at Golden Peacock, which attracted a number of Africa University students including Mutare residents at large.

‘‘I chose to celebrate my birthday continuously in style because that is what is wanted in the entertainment sector. Check how some top international music gurus, celebrate their birthday.

“This is not actually new as last year we had a birthday bash with a budget of more than $4 000.  We received a number of my fellow students at Africa University who came to celebrate with me and residents from around Mutare who joined me during this special moment.

“On April 11 which was the actual day of my birthday we had a braai pool party at Magic City (Jubilee Centre) which started at 12pm and it was in collaboration with Jackson Zimboi’s birthday.

“We featured Zim hip-hop and Zim dancehall artistes and surprise performances from different artistes. We invited upcoming artistes since it was a forum for them to perform and thus an open platform to show potential promoters what they are capable of,” he said.

He said they also launched the official “Sod Sound” mixtape done by “Mc Konspirator” and Dj Fwesh and gave out free CDs.

The after-party took place at 167 Enterprise Road and was hosted by Mo VIP Entertainment.

“On April 12 we set it out at Red Fox Hotel where there was the ‘Mad Sunday Project Jellyz’ edition and was hosted by Robert Zee.  There was cake and drinks for the ladies courtesy of the ‘Bad Boy Entertainment where Judgment Yard’s Etherton B, DJ Flevah, 2 Bad and Abisha Pamer were guest DJs,’’ he said.

Jellzy said the birthday celebration will next go to Victoria Falls at The Kingdom Hotel and end in Bindura.

“On April 17, the party will continue in Victoria Falls at The Kingdom Hotel and it will be in association with DJ White’s birthday. The final event will be in Bindura on May 2. Students will be on break so we expect more people to attend the party as we will unleash the prowess of dancehall artistes Killer T and Ricky Fire,’’ he said.

However, he could not disclose this year’s budget for the bash but said everything was covered and all events would happen as planned.
