Celebrated local Gospel music outfit Vocal Ex is set to celebrate its tenth anniversary in style with a concert on 20 July at the Family of God (Fog) auditorium, a show which will also feature some of the genre’s greats.
Artistes who will help Vocal Ex celebrate a decade of existence include the award-winning muso Everton Mlalazi, Canaan Nyathi, Mai Mwamuka, Pastor Barak, Snowy, Dumisa, Dunamis Men, The Few, iWorship, Obscure, Fragrant Worship and The Immovables.
Thembelani Mdlaziba who is one of the founders of the group, said the celebrations are meant to bring together people who have stood by them since they formed the outfit in 2014.
He said for the decade-long stint in the industry, they will perform and record all the fans’ favourite tracks to make it into their upcoming project.
“For our 10th-anniversary concert, we want to go all out and do a live DVD recording that will then be a collection of works throughout our 10 years, making it our fourth project since the start of our journey.
The levels that we have been exposed to have uplifted us as we have shared the stage with ZimPraise, Dr Tumi, Joyous Celebration, Deborah Fraser, Janet Manyowa, Nqubeko Mbatha, Snowy and Ntokozo Mbambo, among others.
These experiences have helped us as a team to shape up and grow as individuals and they have made us better people,” said Mdlaziba.
Vocal Ex has grown to be a brand of note. It has grown steadily but it was hugely affected by the Covid-19 lockdown, as it kept them off stage for about two years. Nature forced them to rebuild as a group in 2022 and they have proven to be growing stronger.
“As we celebrate 10 years, we put aside the obstacles we faced. We want to grow beyond borders and find ourselves on the international scene.
Ever since we resumed, we have continued with the growth of the team, specifically with more new faces, but still, we have tried to maintain what we do both in standard, musically, and as ministers in song,” said Mdlaziba.
Some of the artistes who have graduated from Vocal Ex are Delukes, Chelsea Mguni, Siza Mdlongwa, Nceku, Mimmie Tarukwana, Ashley, and Snowy, among others. The late Erick Moyo was one of the key enablers of the group at its inception.
