THE Judicial Service Commission will tomorrow (Saturday) hold its first ever public open day in Mutare that will see stakeholders in the justice delivery system interacting with members of the public.Manicaland provincial magistrate, Mrs Lucie-Anne Mungwari, said the public expo would run from 9am to 4pm.
“The objective of the open day is to fulfil the 2012-2016 strategic plan by raising awareness on the mandate of the JSC, monitor and evaluate public relations strategies as well as receiving feedback from members of the public on the performance of the courts.”
She said there was need to foster public trust and confidence in the justice system and to undertake public education to improve knowledge of the courts.
The expo which will run under the theme: “Access to justice: Know your courts”, will also see legal practitioners, Law Society of Zimbabwe, law-based Non Governmental Organisations and other stakeholders showcasing their operations to the public.
“The dates of open days are, provisionally, the last Saturdays of every month. As for tomorrow’s event, there will be a big tent that will accommodates the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, High Court, Labour Court, Magistrates Court, Offices of the Sheriff and the Master of the High Court.
“Each court will prepare and distribute brochures and pamphlets to members of the public on important areas and issues that need to be shared.
“The day starts off with a procession at 9am from the Mutare Magistrates’ Courts right through to the flyover thereafter settling at Meikles Park,” she said.
Several other open days will be held in other provinces later into the year.
