THE Judicial Service Commission has redeployed three magistrates in Midlands Province as part of a routine exercise to strengthen its operations.
The transfers are with effect from January 1 next year, Chief Magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe said.
Shepherd Munjanja, who was in charge of Gokwe magistrates’ court, has been redeployed to Zvishavane courts.
Making his way to the Gokwe magistrates’ courts is Pasipanodya Mataruse who was at Mberengwa magistrates’ court.
Mataruse has been promoted to the position of resident magistrate at Gokwe.
Tavengwa Sangster has been elevated resident magistrate at Mberengwa magistrates’ court, moving from Zvishavane magistrates’ court to fill the void left by Mataruse.
Guvamombe said the movements are meant to strengthen the operations of the commission.
He said Munjanja who still has a case to answer, concerning a court case pitting him and a Harare prostitute, was going to be an ordinary magistrate at Zvishavane court.
“The promotions and redeployments are routine exercises. They are meant to strengthen the commission. While Munjanja has a pending case with the commission, that is not the reason why he is being redeployed,” said Guvamombe.
Munjanja was sworn in about eight years ago after finishing training at the Judicial Staff College before serving as a magistrate at the Bulawayo magistrates’ courts housed at Tredgold.
He was then moved to Gokwe as resident magistrate until his latest redeployment to Zvishavane.
At the beginning of the month the Commission promoted and redeployed three magistrates in Matabeleland North Province incorporating Bulawayo.
