adminin camp, have been selected to represent the country in the tri-nations tournament against Kenya and Namibia from August 20-22.
The team will have some experience in Mbongeni Maphosa, Travis Smith, Stuart Krog and Jack Allard, who all helped the same side to a first-place finish at last year’s event which was held at Chapman in Harare.
There are two new players in the team Kieren Vincent and Shahid Mahmed whose fine form saw them finishing within the qualifiers in the order of merit.
The six have been included in the squad to challenge this year’s competition after Zimbabwe managed to beat Zambia and Botswana.
Last year, Zimbabwe proved too strong for their opponents as they won both the singles and doubles.
Zimbabwe Junior Golf Union president, Mike Baylis, said they were having some good preparations ahead of the Namibian event.
“We spent the first week collecting information on the (players) strengths and weaknesses, and now the players have an idea of where they need to improve and fast,” said Baylis.
“We’re focusing on the short game and course management and I am confident that these kids will be ready to put in a serious challenge for the trophy this year. The preparations had been going on well but we emphasised the need for continued corporate support,” Baylis said.
Meanwhile, Country Club Golf Course will host the University of Zimbabwe in partnership Alumni and Partners Golf Classic today.
