JUST IN: 2022 preliminary census results out

MANICALAND has the second largest population in Zimbabwe behind Harare Province.

According to the 2022 preliminary National Population and Preliminary results released by ZimStat Director-General, Mr Taguma Mahonde this afternoon, as of April 20, 22, Zimbabwe had a total population of 15 178 979 people.

A total of 7 889 421 people are females and 7 289 558 are males. The country’s population grew by 16, 2 percent from the 13, 1 million people recorded in 2012.

Mr Mahonde said Harare has the largest population of 16 percent, Manicaland (13.4 percent), Mashonaland West (12,5 percent), Midlands (11,9 percent), Mashonaland East (11,4 percent) Masvingo (10,8 percent), Mashonaland Central (9,1 percent), Matabeleland North (5,5 percent), Matabeleland South (five percent) and Bulawayo (4,4) percent.

The rural population has also fallen from 67 percent in 2012 to 61, 4 percent in 2022.
