From Blessings Chidakwa in Kadoma
Kadoma has started offering free cervical cancer screening following First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s recent visit to Mashonaland West province.
The First Lady toured Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital as part of her nationwide cervical cancer screening campaign and encouraged women to get tested.
Barely a month after her visit, Kadoma municipality health department has started offering free cervical cancer screening at its various clinics across the city.
In a recent statement, the local authority announced that tests will be conducted at Rimuka Maternity on March 14-15, Waverly Clinic (March 20-21), Chemukute Clinic (March 23-24) and Ingezi Clinic (March 28-29).
A resident, Mr Pikirai Mazanhi, hailed council for the initiative.
“The first time the tests were conducted was a resounding success,” he said. “Cancer of the cervix is the leading cancer among women in the country.”
Mrs Marvelous Ndaba welcomed the life-saving campaign spearheaded by the First Lady.
“I am grateful for such a gesture as it is being done across all the clinics, making it easily accessible for the local women who will be getting screened,” she said.
“This will surely go a long way in ensuring that the once segregated women can now freely get tested.”
It is believed that the cancer screening campaigns will be conducted effortlessly in Mashonaland West after indications that all hospitals in the province are capable of screening patients.
