AT the start of the current Castle Lager Premiership football campaign, few predicted a strong opening for Dynamos.

Many had written off Dynamos following a turbulent pre-season and a roster devoid of the usual blockbuster signings – a position compounded by early losses to Highlanders and Scottland in pre-season matches.

Yet, three matches into the season, Dynamos remain unbeaten, giving the blue-half of the capital a reason to believe.

Despite the growing optimism among the DeMbare faithful, head coach Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe is keeping his feet – and those of his players – firmly on the ground.

“I am happy with the start, winning two and drawing one of our first three games.

“However, it is still a very long way to go this season, and we haven’t won anything yet. We take it one game at a time,” said Mangombe.

Mangombe believes the absence of “big-name” signings has actually worked in his favour, ensuring that every player in the squad remains hungry to prove themselves.

“The advantage of not having big names is that everyone is hungry. Players are being chosen strictly on merit; if you perform in training, you play the next game.

“That has created a level of competition within the squad that is pushing everyone to their limit. I am very happy with the progress and how the players have gelled so far,” he said.

Dynamos are set to play their third away match of the season as they travel to Wadzanayi for a date against Agama tomorrow.

Mangombe and his charges will be hoping to maintain their perfect away record and continue their clinical form in front of goal.

Dynamos have netted six times in three matches, the highest tally in the league so far.

“In our league, it is very difficult to get results away from home.

“The good part is that we have won both of our away games, and we hope to carry that momentum forward. I am happy that we are scoring in every game; there are a lot of positives to take from these opening matches,” the Dynamos coach added.

As Dynamos’ financial muscle has been tested by the rise of wealthier rival clubs, the task of motivating the players and keeping the institution competitive has become more vital than ever.

Rather than focusing on the stars they missed out on, Mangombe has spent the early weeks of the season anchoring his squad in the club’s storied history.

“I have spent a lot of time telling the boys what it means to play for Dynamos. This is not just any club; it’s an institution.

“I have told them about the importance of the badge they carry on their chest. I believe the players now understand what it means to be a Dynamos player, and results have followed that belief.

“I am also happy with how the team is being motivated. The executive has been very supportive under difficult conditions, which has helped the team grind out results,” said the Dynamos gaffer.
