Kariba poised to surpass Victoria Falls: Official

Governor Chidarikire said the tourism sector consumed substantial amounts of energy and faced pressure from the power supply deficit facing the country. The tourism industry, he said, made strides in incorporating innovative sustainable energy initiatives.
Speaking at a tourism indaba to mark the Tourism Month in Kariba, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority head planning and investment Mr Reason Machigere said the resort town had so much potential to attract tourists. He said if managed well, Kariba could upstage Victoria Falls as the main tourist attraction.
“Kariba has the potential to turnaround its vast potential to wake up from its deep slumber and match or even surpass Victoria Falls in terms of products to offer and competitiveness. There is need to boost room capacity to be able to host major events,” said Mr Machigere.
