BLACK RHINOS defender Valentine Katsande opened his goal-scoring account in their 1-0 win over Ngezi Under 19 in the Northern Region Soccer League on Saturday.
The goal was enough for the army side to secure much-needed maximum points and move to the summit of the log standings with 46 points.
Katsande who scored four goals last season in the topflight is expecting to better his tally this season.
The army side faces stiff competition from Harare City, MWOS, and Scottland.
“I am grateful to the Almighty for the goal. It was a close encounter and Ngezi were solid in their defensive lines. The game was heading to the final whistle hence I was delighted to grab the goal.
“I am grateful to the coaches who are allowing me to play as I have a chance to express myself.
“The coaches have been encouraging us to take shots outside the box and we have been training so that it comes out successfully. I am inspired to make those my trademark goals as I intend to take more shots at goal.
“Now that we are one of the title contenders we are facing serious resistance from all the teams. Everyone wants to create a name for themselves for getting a result against us.
“But as a team, we are approaching all our last games as cup games. So, every game is like a final, regardless of who will be playing against it.
“As players, we are just sticking to what the coaches want.
“Whatever they tell us to do during our sessions is what we are trying to implement during our games,” he said.
Rhinos are expected to move their home ground to One Commando Barracks in their next encounter when they host PAM FC.
The stadium went under inspection yesterday by the responsible authorities.
The move is expected to be a major boost for the club’s return to the topflight.
