THREE Mutorashanga men were arrested after they were found in possession of copper cables.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H- Metro that police in Mutorashanga arrested Banda Tembo,47, of Vanad mine, Aaron Kutinyu,40, of Ethel village, and Tashinga Vhiola, of Vanad mine village in Mutorashanga.
Kohwera said the trio were arrested after being found in possession of copper cables.
He said on August 18, at around 3 am, the police received a tip-off to the effect that the suspects were seen in possession of a transformer and copper cables.
Kohwera said the police swiftly reacted to the information and intercepted a Commuter Omnibus they were aboard at Fobricks shops, Mutorashanga.
“ The trio were arrested and upon interviews, they led the police to Tembo’s place of residence.
“ A search was conducted and the police recovered various copper cables and a transformer, “ said Kohwera.
He said the cables consist of nine pieces of copper plates coated with aluminium, various plain copper wires, burnt copper wires, and various bundles of plain copper wires stripped from armoured copper cables.
Kohwera said police are concerned with the theft of copper cables, armoured cables, and vandalism of transformers in Mutorashanga and Banket areas.
“Suspects are targeting mostly armoured cables supplying electricity to transformers in the farms.
We applaud the general public for supplying information leading to the arrests of the trio,” said Kohwera.
